Gallagher Re has named Pablo Muñoz (pictured above) as chief executive officer of global facultative reinsurance, a newly established position effective July 2.
Muñoz joins from Aon Reinsurance Solutions, where he spent 17 years. His most recent roles there included global deputy CEO of facultative and chair of its Latin America reinsurance business. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the industry, with previous leadership roles at Willis, Willis Re, and Benfield.
In his new role, Muñoz will sit on the reinsurance global executive committee and work closely with Gallagher Re’s leadership to develop facultative capabilities and expand client engagement.
His remit includes oversight of a network of facultative specialists based in regional hubs such as London, Singapore, Sydney, New York, and the Middle East.
Gallagher Re has framed the appointment as part of a broader effort to build out its facultative platform in response to rising demand from the market.
“Pablo has a proven track record of building global facultative expertise and expanding market presence. We’re delighted to welcome him to Gallagher Re,” CEO Tom Wakefield said.
In a related move, Gallagher Re has also reached an agreement with its Japan facultative joint venture partner to assume full control of the Japan property and casualty cedant facultative portfolio.
Japan is a significant cedant facultative market, and this development enables Gallagher Re to offer a complete facultative and treaty service to Japanese clients. As part of the transition, new team members have joined the firm’s London and Singapore offices as of July 1, with additional hires expected through the end of 2025.
Among the personnel developments accompanying this expansion, Gallagher Re appointed Satoshi Yamazaki as a senior manager in its Tokyo office. Yamazaki, who joined in May, has held treaty and facultative underwriting positions across Asia and brings more than a decade of reinsurance experience.
Separately, Gallagher Re also expanded its life reinsurance team with the addition of Sarah Maune as vice president within its life solutions division. Maune, who also joined in May, brings over 16 years of experience in life re/insurance, with a background in global structuring and transaction execution.
