Continued turnover at the top of reinsurance underwriting functions was underlined this week as the Fidelis Partnership, MS Reinsurance and Greenlight Capital Re each moved to fill chief underwriting officer and board-level roles. Fidelis's hires build on 18 months of Bermuda expansion, MS Re's changes follow a broader restructuring of its underwriting operations announced in 2025, and Greenlight Re's board addition follows its July shareholder meeting.
MS Reinsurance appointed Julien Mollinier (pictured) as chief underwriting officer for global specialty lines, effective early 2027, succeeding Jörg Bruniecki, who became MS Re's chief underwriting officer earlier this year. Mollinier joins from TransRe, where he served as president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and brings more than 20 years of experience across financial risks and the broader property and casualty market. He will be based in Zurich.
MS Re also named Joscelin Burrer as head of financial risks, reporting to Mollinier - Burrer had held the role on an interim basis since April following Paul Murphy's departure. Pius Leupi joins as lead underwriter for financial risks in Zurich, moving from Swiss Re, where he was head of credit and surety for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Bruniecki said Mollinier's appointment would strengthen the specialty lines team's strategic leadership, as well as bringing technical and broad market experience to the role.
The Fidelis Partnership named Helen Wilson as its Bermuda-based reinsurance chief underwriting officer, pending immigration approval, and hired Sarah Ching as senior underwriter for international property. Wilson has more than 20 years' experience in reinsurance underwriting, catastrophe modelling, analytics and business transformation, including more than a decade with QBE in Bermuda, Sydney and London, and joins from Hannover Re in Bermuda, where she was senior underwriter. Ching joins from MS Amlin, bringing 13 years of property treaty underwriting experience focused on the Asia-Pacific region.
Michael Davern, Fidelis's UK chief underwriting officer, tied the hires to the company's broader Bermuda expansion, which has included the launch of two Pine Walk cells this year and other recent senior appointments. "Helen and Sarah are the latest additions to what we believe is a market-leading team on the island," Davern said. Wilson said the scale of Fidelis's platform drew her to the role. "TFP has built something really compelling in Bermuda - the platform, the talent and the ambition are all there," she said.
Greenlight Capital Re appointed John Welch as an independent director effective September 1, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The appointment follows the July 28 shareholder election of Ariel Warszawski to the board at the company's annual general meeting. Welch was also named to Greenlight Re's audit, compensation and underwriting committees.
Welch served as group chief underwriting officer of Aspen Insurance Holdings from July 2025 to February 2026, and continued as a reinsurance executive at Sompo Holdings, which acquired Aspen in February 2026, until August 2026. He previously spent two years as Aspen's chief underwriting officer for reinsurance and held senior roles at AXA XL Reinsurance, XL Catlin and XL Reinsurance America. David Einhorn, Greenlight Re's chairman, said Welch "brings broad and deep financial industry and actuarial expertise."
