International medical and travel insurer A la carte healthcare (ALC Health) has been confirmed as a Lloyd’s coverholder in Hong Kong.

The firm has been granted binding authority with underwriters at Lloyd’s Hong Kong branch and is registered locally with the Insurance Agents Registration Board (IARB) as all new and renewal Hong Kong business will transfer to the new binder from July 01.

ALC Health has also announced the opening of an office in Hong Kong with Harry Amende appointed as business development executive.

Sarah Jewell, founder and CEO of ALC Health, said that by attaining coverholder status, brokers and clients can have more confidence in the firm and its products.

“With tightening regulations for the health insurance industry in Hong Kong, this will afford us more opportunities for growth and increased flexibility in serving the market,” Jewell said.

The firm has been established in Hong Kong for several years and the office opening marks the first time they have had a physical presence in the country.

Amende has experience in the insurance market in Hong Kong having previously worked as director of operations for ExpatInsurer. The firm plans to expand its presence in Hong Kong with the addition of a claims handler for the new office.
