Global reinsurance brokerage Aon Benfield’s head for Asia-Pacific Malcolm Steingold has announced that he will be stepping down from his position and retire around the middle of this year.

A 35-year veteran of the insurance industry, Steingold spent 24 years with Aon. When the company merged with Benfield in 2008, he became CEO of Aon Benfield Asia-Pacific. Prior to that, he was CEO of Aon Re Asia-Pacific and CEO of Aon Re Australia.

According to the company, Steingold and his team have been involved in helping clients manage the impact of some of the world’s largest disasters in recent history, such as the floods in Thailand and the earthquakes in New Zealand and Tohoku, Japan.

No replacement has been named for his role, and there is a possibility that a restructuring of the regional operations will happen in the future. In the meantime, Aon Benfield’s APAC executive team will fill in for Steingold after his departure, reporting directly to chief executive Eric Andersen.
