Euler Hermes has appointed Matthew Wells as market management commercial distribution director for Asia-Pacific. He succeeds Gordon Cessford, who has left the company.

Wells has been with the Allianz-backed trade credit insurer for 17 years, where he began as an underwriter and moved on to various roles, the most recent as commercial director for the Nordic region, Global Trade Review reported. He is now based in Hong Kong.

“Matthew has gained broad multi-channel and multi-country experience in the trade credit insurance and financial services industry and brings to his new role a driving spirit, entrepreneurship, and commitment,” said Holger Schaefer, Euler Hermes Asia-Pacific CEO and Wells’ immediate superior. “I am confident that Matthew, together with the regional and local market management teams, will achieve great success.”

Cessford has departed from Euler Hermes after three years in the role. Prior to that, he was part of rival trade credit insurer Coface for 17 years. He had also worked for Bank of New York, KPMG, and Standard Chartered.
