Everest Re Group announced yesterday that it has appointed Matthew Kelly as vice-president and head of the reinsurance division’s international casualty facultative unit.

According to a release, Kelly will be based in Everest Re’s Miami office and will be responsible for worldwide casualty facultative underwriting, excluding business written for US and Canada clients.

Kelly joins Everest with over 20 years of industry experience. He was most recently regional head of casualty and specialty casualty with Hiscox. Kelly had previously headed up the casualty and specialty casualty underwriting practice for a number of carriers operating in Latin America and the Caribbean. He also has experience in insurance operations in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Argentina.

“We are excited to have someone with Matt’s background joining us in this role,” said Everest executive vice-president and head of International Ron Diaz. “His skills and extensive experience are a welcome addition to the team. Our international facultative operation continues to improve and expand. We look forward to Matt’s contributions in servicing our client needs in the facultative space.”

“We are pleased to have a leader of Matt’s caliber join the reinsurance division,” commented Everest reinsurance division president and CEO John Doucette. “His addition underlines our commitment to the facultative reinsurance market.”
