Generali, the global insurer and Future Group, the India-based conglomerate, have appointed Anup Rau as chief executive officer and managing director of their joint venture Future Generali India Insurance Company Limited (FGII).

According to a statement by Generali, Rau is a seasoned professional with 19 years in the insurance industry. He joined FGII from Edelweiss General Insurance, where he was CEO. Prior to that, Rau was CEO of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance for over four years. He also held leadership roles at ICICI Prudential Life and HDFC Life in the past.

“We view India as an important and fast-growing market for our business in Asia,” said Rob Leonardi, Generali’s regional officer for Asia. “Anup’s vast experience and understanding of retail, combined with his expertise in strategic digital initiatives within the industry, will be a huge asset for Future Generali India. We are confident that Anup will take forward the strong legacy of his predecessor to new heights.”

Rau holds an MBA from the University of Bombay and a bachelor’s degree in economics (with honours) from the University of Delhi.
