Markel International has appointed Lin Wanshi (pictured) as assistant marine underwriter, joining its team in Singapore.

The appointment is part of Markel’s efforts to expand its marine business, one of its core areas, and enhance its underwriting capabilities in Asia-Pacific, the firm said in a media statement.

Lin reports to senior marine liability underwriter Colin Fordham, and works closely with marine underwriter Gustaf Kristiansson to further build Markel’s marine hull, liability, and cargo business in the region.

She joins Markel from Marsh, where she worked on market penetration strategies in the marine hull and liability market and serviced direct and facultative reinsurance clients across the region. Prior to Marsh, she was an assistant manager with CIMC Raffles Offshore (formerly known as Yantai Raffles Shipyard Limited), managing builders’ risk insurance open cover policy for the construction of various types of rigs and specialised vessels.

“I am delighted to welcome Wanshi, an experienced professional in our specialist markets insurance sector,” commented Matt Cannock, Markel’s managing director for Asia.

“We are confident Markel will benefit from her knowledge and experience, as well as the extensive industry contacts she has established over the years, which will be invaluable in assisting Markel to extend its business footprint in Asia further.”
