Specialist insurer Markel International Singapore has named Colin Fordham as its senior marine liability underwriter.

Fordham will be based in Singapore and will report directly to Matthew Cannock, principal officer & managing director of Markel International. He will be in charge of growing Markel’s marine liability business in Asia, banking on his over 20 years’ experience in marine insurance underwriting, claims, and broking.

Prior to joining Markel, Fordham was senior marine liability underwriter at the Munich Re syndicate on the Lloyd’s Asia Platform. He also worked as general manager for Seasia P&I Services, where he headed a correspondent network scattered across 20 countries.

“We are delighted with Colin’s appointment. He will make a valuable addition to the marine underwriting team here in Asia,” said Cannock. “With Colin’s wealth of experience and expertise, we can definitely look towards growing Markel’s marine liability book of business in the region. The timing of this appointment could not be better following so closely to our acquisition of the Galleon Underwriting Agency last year and this means that we will be able to offer their innovative products to our partners across Asia Pacific.”

Fordham is also a distinguished committee member of several industry associations in Singapore, such as the Singapore Shipping Association (Insurance) and Workplace Safety and Health Council (Insurance Workgroup).
