MetLife has appointed executive vice president James Reid to head its Global Employee Benefits (GEB) business, the company has announced. In that role, Reid will be responsible for accelerating GEB’s growth through partnerships with MetLife’s regional offices and growing relationships with financial institutions, brokers and consultants in the sector.

Reid has more than 25 years of experience in health and employee benefits, as well as P&L ownership. He joined MetLife in 2012 and has held several leadership positions in the company’s US Group Benefits organisation. Under Reid’s leadership, the US team has partnered with IBM to create a first-of-its-kind quote-to-claim platform and prior to joining MetLife, Reid spent more than 20 years at Aetna.

“James brings tremendous industry knowledge, innovative thinking, and a focus on plan execution to GEB,” said Michael Khalaf, president of US business and EMEA. “With both healthcare and employee benefits experience, he is well-positioned to lead this charge.”

“A connected network such as MetLife GEB has the expertise to provide solutions for global clients as it applies a dual macro and micro lens to solving challenges,” Reid said. “I am proud to have the opportunity to work with this team.”
