QBE has announced the appointment of Michael Gourlay and Yen Saw as non-executive directors of the QBE Asia advisory board, effective January 2020.

According to a statement by the insurer, Gourlay will also chair the Asia advisory board. The board provides leadership oversight of QBE Asia, ensures governance, and maintains a strong connection with the country boards.

Gourlay has 40 years’ experience in the insurance sector, working across operational and strategic roles at a group, regional, and country level for MSIG Insurance and Aviva, most notably in the Asia-Pacific region. He has extensive know-how in the wholesale and property and casualty insurance market and deep networks across the region. Prior to April 2019, Gourlay was director and CEO of MSIG Insurance (Singapore) and concurrently regional head of broker and bancassurance distribution, where he was instrumental in driving digital transformation across the business.

Meanwhile, Saw has 30 years’ experience in insurance and reinsurance in the Asia-Pacific region across business development, marketing and distribution, operations, and client servicing. She was the chief executive officer of Tokio Marine Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd, from which she retired in 2016. Prior to that, she led Aviva’s Indonesian franchise and ran CIMB’s Assurance business. She currently runs her own consultancy that connects reinsurance companies with investors and tech businesses.
