Sompo International has appointed Yoshitaka Abe to a new role as executive vice president and head of Asia-Pacific business development and strategy.

Abe’s appointment came into effect on April 01, and he will report to Rene Lamer, Sompo International’s chief executive officer for Singapore.

Having been part of the Sompo organisation for 27 years, Abe joints Sompo International from Sompo Holdings in Japan, where he held various senior roles. Most recently, he was general manager of the SJNK global reinsurance department. Before this, he was head of strategic business development for Sompo Canopius Re, based in London. 

Abe has also managed catastrophe reinsurance and Lloyd’s Gearing Quota Shares (QS) for SJNK and was the underwriter for the Endurance/Sompo International Global Cat QS for many years.
