Neil Irwin – who has been working within the CEEMEA (Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region since 2009 – has been appointed as Willis Towers Watson’s new leader for the region described as having “high-potential”.

Based in Dubai, the industry veteran will not only lead around 2,300 people in more than 40 countries but also serve as the region’s head of corporate risk and broking. Much of his over 25 years of experience was in the CEEMEA region.

Most recently, Irwin was in charge of global distribution at Cigna Global Health Benefits. For four years he also led business development for EMEA and India at Marsh, and from 2013 to 2016 was managing director for the Middle East and Africa operations. Other positions he has held include Sedgwick’s Europe development director, as well as regional managing director for Marsh in the UK.

“I am excited to be leading this diverse, engaging, and high-growth region, and I am delighted to be working with such a talented team to ensure that, right across CEEMEA, we become the advisory, broking, and solutions company of choice,” commented Irwin.

Adam Garrard, head of international at Willis Towers Watson, said CEEMEA is an “important, high-potential” region for the brokerage giant. Citing “invaluable” experience in managing complex businesses across different cultures and commercial environments, he added that Irwin is a great fit for the role.

“His strong background in insurance will be key to driving our growth strategy around risk and broking, while his management vision and leadership will help set out our combined, wider offer in multiple markets,” said Garrard.
