Program to aid sustainable start-ups

Bupa launches latest eco-Disruptive program

By Roxanne Libatique

Bupa has launched the 2023 eco-Disruptive program to provide funding and expertise to sustainable start-ups in Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.

The global program aims to provide several start-ups with £25,000, or local currency equivalent, in initial funding and connect them to Bupa's experts to develop solutions that improve people's health and address environmental issues. Start-ups can also win additional funding of £200,000 to further improve their solutions.

“We want to start a movement for sustainable innovation by harnessing the passion of our people and the start-up communities across the Asia-Pacific region,” said Roger Sharp, chief sustainability & corporate affairs officer at Bupa Asia Pacific. “Unlike big businesses, start-ups often have the ability to move fast and innovate, which is valuable, given we are all in a race to net zero.

“That's why supporting the start-up community is a really important strategy for us.”

Global competition

Bupa is seeking start-ups to join the third eco-Disruptive program, which has been running with Australian start-up Cassava Bags Australia.

“By working with innovative start-ups who are focused on sustainable solutions, we're working to create a culture for our people to find new ways to address environmental issues and to consider how we can restore and regenerate nature, especially in our cities,” Sharp said.

Applications for Bupa's 2023 eco-Disruptive program close on August 22, 2023.
