Manulife Hong Kong and Macau has appointed three senior leaders to strengthen its management in the region.

Danny Lee (pictured) takes on the role of chief health officer, KC Cheung has been named chief product officer, and Louisa Li assumes the combined position of chief strategy officer and head of the Macau branch.

Both Lee and Cheung will join the senior management team on Oct. 14.

The appointments are part of the company’s efforts to advance its health offerings, drive product development, and expand strategic initiatives in Macau.

Danny Lee to oversee health business

Lee will direct the Health business across Hong Kong and Macau, a role newly established to support the company’s ambitions in healthcare solutions.

He will be responsible for designing health propositions, managing the portfolio, overseeing provider and medical services, and implementing health-related transformation initiatives.

Lee is a Chartered Financial Analyst and fellow of the Society of Actuaries, with more than two decades at Manulife Hong Kong. His experience includes business strategy, product pricing, design, and distribution management across multiple insurance lines.

KC Cheung to lead product innovation

Cheung will spearhead product strategy for Hong Kong and Macau, overseeing innovation, in-force portfolio management, and product transformation initiatives.

With over 25 years of experience in the insurance and banking sectors, he previously served as CEO of Hang Seng Insurance and head of products at HSBC Life, managing large-scale life insurance portfolios and supporting customer protection and retirement solutions.

Louisa Li expands strategy and Macau responsibilities

Louisa Li, formerly head of strategy and transformation at Manulife Asia, will take on broader responsibilities as chief strategy officer for Hong Kong and Macau and lead the Macau branch.

She will oversee the strategy team, strategic project management office, and operations in Macau, while continuing to support strategy and transformation across the Asia segment.

Patrick Graham, CEO of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau, said these appointments position the company to execute priorities and support market growth.

“These appointments reflect our ongoing commitment to building a high-performing leadership team that drives our growth ambitions and strategic priorities in Hong Kong and Macau. With deep expertise across health, product, and strategy, Danny, KC, and Louisa bring complementary strengths that will enable us to innovate, execute with agility, and deliver greater value to our customers,” he said.

Manulife Asia records first-quarter gains

The leadership changes come alongside strong growth in Manulife’s Asia business in Q1 2025.

Annualised premium equivalent (APE) sales rose 50% to US$1.41 billion, new business contractual service margin reached US$498 million, and new business value increased 43% to US$457 million. Core earnings for the segment grew 7% to US$492 million.

The company attributed results to higher insurance volumes, a favourable claims environment, and contributions from new business.

During the quarter, it extended a 15-year bancassurance partnership in the Philippines and deployed AI-based tools in Singapore and Japan to improve agent and broker support.

Manulife also introduced new health-related offerings targeting high-net-worth clients and expanded cancer diagnosis and cross-border drug support initiatives in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area of China.
