Mercury General Corporation has announced the appointment of Victor Joseph as president and chief operating officer. Joseph has also been appointed to the company’s board of directors, with both appointments taking effect Jan. 1.

Joseph is currently the company’s executive vice president and COO, a position he has held since 2022. In his new role, he will continue to report to Mercury CEO Gabriel Tirador.

“This announcement exemplifies Mercury’s continued progress in building our leadership structure and vision for the future of the company,” Tirador said. “Victor has been a key contributor on Mercury’s leadership team, providing creative problem-solving and a deep-rooted passion for the company. His energy and dedication to Mercury and the industry will further strengthen our position as one of America’s leading insurance companies.”

“Mercury is well-positioned to grow our market share,” Joseph said. “We are making investments in technology, talent and infrastructure that we believe will give us a competitive advantage, not just tomorrow, but well into the future, and I’m very proud to be able to lead Mercury’s transformation.”

Joseph joined Mercury in 2009 and has held a variety of positions, including chief underwriting officer. In that role, he was instrumental in modernizing the company’s underwriting function. Currently, Joseph oversees Mercury’s day-to-day operations, with most of the company’s business units reporting directly to him. His father, George Joseph, founded Mercury in 1961 and still holds the title of chairman of the board.

Earlier this year, Mercury announced the appointment of Wilson Pang as chief technology officer. This summer, Mercury Insurance was named one of the world’s best insurance companies in the auto category by Forbes.
