AIG has appointed Steve Gibbs as Asia-Pacific head of claims, general insurance, effective January 13, 2020.

Gibbs will report to Steve Agutter, international head of claims, general insurance and Sachin N. Shah, chief executive officer of AIG Asia-Pacific, a statement from the global insurer said.

“Steve is a recognized industry leader with extensive claims experience across both commercial and consumer lines,” commented Agutter. “His success in improving claims efficiency, execution quality and ability to build high performing teams will ensure AIG is at the forefront of claims excellence.”

Gibbs has been in the insurance industry for 22 years. He will join AIG after eight years at AXA XL, where he was most recently head of claims practices for international property & casualty. Prior to that, he was head of global claims operations across all lines of business at XL Catlin before it was acquired by AXA.

“Steve’s addition to AIG Asia-Pacific signals our strong commitment to our ongoing investment in the claims experience of our clients,” Shah added. “Steve will be responsible for establishing and implementing our regional claims strategy, which will raise the bar for AIG.”
