AXA Affin General Insurance (AAGI) has launched a new motor insurance offering for drivers of e-hailing passengers in Malaysia.

Dubbed “AXA SmartDrive — Sharing”, the product covers loss or damage to a driver’s vehicle, liability to third party, legal liability to/of passengers and driver’s personal accident cover up to RM10,000, as reported by Bernama.

“When you get behind the wheels, you want to be able to drive knowing that you and your passengers are protected. Which is why we have come up with this plan to empower e-hailing drivers to drive and earn with complete peace of mind,” said AAGI CEO Emmanuel Nivet.

The new service also includes a five-working-day claims approval process upon full documents’ submission. Drivers also get access to roadside assistance with the AXA SmartDrive Assistance Plan, including a 24hr hotline service, towing and six-month repair warranty.

E-hailing services such as Grab and Uber were legalised in Malaysia last year, but were already operating in the country before then amid the popularity of smartphones and mobile internet. According to AAGI, some 180,000 e-hailing drivers operate in Malaysia.

Last December, MSIG Insurance Malaysia introduced “E-Hail E-Zee” – a policy add-on tailored to ride sharing drivers as a supplement to a standard comprehensive motor insurance plan.
