With China opening up its insurance sector to more foreign investment, interest in the market continues to grow, with an international forum for insurance agents set to be held there soon.

The 2019 LIMRA LOMA International Agency Transformation Forum, jointly hosted by international life insurance associations LIMRA and LOMA, will take place in Shanghai, China on May 22 to 23 at the Grand Kempinski Hotel.

The two-day conference will allow attendees to hear a diverse group of international speakers discuss the changes shaping agency transformations in China and around the world, a statement from the organisers said.

John Cai, regional chief executive of AIA Group, will talk about Asia’s life insurance agency channels and trends for future agency systems. He will discuss AIA Group's development strategy for their various distribution systems and explain how the insurer develops its agency channel presently and in the future.

Meanwhile, Chris Au, regional chief administrative officer of Manulife Financial Asia, will share key insights on where to best source quality leads in recruiting. He will offer suggestions on timelines, development and selection of top talent to improve agent retention.

The following four executives will also share their thoughts on the best strategies for maintaining a modern agency operation that is both customer-centric and profitable:

  • James Chang, senior vice president, Life Insurance Co.
  • Edwin Si, managing director, LIMRA and LOMA
  • Xiaohong Sun, vice president, Aeon Life Insurance Company
  • David Yu, chief agency officer, Sino-US United Metlife Insurance Company
