Ordinary members of HomeTeamNS, an association working for the welfare of Singapore’s national servicemen, will receive free personal accident insurance.

Around 200,000 HomeTeamNS members, which are composed of former and current members of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), will receive personal accident insurance from AXA worth SG$30,000, reported the Straits Times.

The move was announced by Manpower Minster and HomeTeamNS president Josephine Teo at the association’s inaugural family day event at Universal Studios Singapore.

According to the report, this is the first such benefit to be offered by a national service association, and the insurance coverage can be increased to between SG$100,000 and SG$150,000 for a top-up fee of less than SG$1 monthly.

Aside from insurance coverage, HomeTeamNS members will also receive other perks such as movie previews, food promotions, and discounted gym membership.

Three new HomeTeamNS clubhouses are expected to open over the next 10 to 15 years, with the first one opening by 2020 in Khatib-Yishun. It will cater to over 85,000 HomeTeam NSmen and their families living in the northern part of Singapore.

Teo said that benefits, such as insurance, as well as recreational services provided by the clubhouses, are a way to show appreciation towards national servicemen and their contributions. Around 80% of eligible servicemen are members of HomeTeamNS.
