Hong Kong regulator warns against fraudulent broker website

Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority has warned the public of a fraudulent website that presents itself as the website of a licenced broker.

The regulator said in a news release that the domain name of “www.aibbrokershk.com” presents itself as the official website of AIB Insurance Brokers Ltd. (AIB), a licenced insurance brokerage in Hong Kong. AIB has told the Insurance Authority that it does not operate any official website and has no connection with the fraudulent website.

According to the Insurance Authority, it has reported the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. It advised anyone who has provided personal information or conducted any insurance transactions through the website to contact AIB and report the case to the police.

It is possible that the website is operating a phishing scam, where cyber criminals impersonate a legitimate entity in order to trick unsuspecting users to provide personal and financial information such as passwords or banking/credit card details.
