Malaysia Airlines, insurer Etiqa, and insurance and medical assistance provider Cover-More have launched a takaful protection product for the airline’s passengers.

The product, called MHinsure Travel Takaful, allows Malaysia Airlines passengers to purchase cover bundled with a flight ticket. It offers travellers the same benefits of traditional travel insurance, as well as two additional benefits for Badal Hajj and Ihsarr, which cater to Islamic pilgrimages, reported the New Straits Times.

According to Malaysia Airlines group chief executive Izham Ismail, there is currently a high demand for takaful cover for international travel.

“We are excited to launch a comprehensive product that complies with Shariah law and at the same time offers our Muslim and non-Muslim customers comprehensive takaful travel protection with outstanding assistance services,” he said.

“The continued strategic alliance will further expand Etiqa’s global brand presence by leveraging on certain destinations served by Malaysia Airlines or its codeshare partners as well as Cover-More’s global network,” added Etiqa Group chief executive officer Kamaludin Ahmad.

The partnership between Malaysia Airlines, Etiqa, and Cover-More began in 2012 when the three firms came together to offer conventional travel insurance policies to Malaysia Airlines passengers through the airline’s online ticket sales channel.
