Markel International has appointed Nicholas Davies (pictured) as trade credit underwriter and senior risk analyst, based in its Singapore office.

Davies reports to Abhishek Chhajer, head of Asia-Pacific trade credit business. He will work on the development of Markel’s portfolio across the region, in addition to managing existing broker and client relationships.

With over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, Davies began his career in banking and asset finance. He joined Atradius in 2006 as a risk underwriter, first based in Cardiff then later in Ireland, where he was risk manager. In 2012, he was appointed senior underwriter for treaty reinsurance at Atradius Re where he gained experience in the Asia-Pacific market. Most recently, Davies was senior underwriter at AIG Europe in London.

Markel’s Singapore trade credit team writes business across Asia, offering comprehensive non-payment coverage on excess-of-loss and ground-up, multi-buyer, and specific account basis. Last year, it welcomed Dillon Matthews on board to expand its underwriting capabilities.

“The new appointment reflects Markel’s continuing investment in our product lines on a global basis,” commented Ewa Rose, managing director of Markel’s trade credit, political risk and surety business. “Nick’s broad underwriting experience will be a huge asset to our team and we are delighted to have him on board.”

Chhajer added: “We see significant opportunities for our products and Nick’s knowledge and contacts will help us with the continued development of our business across the Asia-Pacific region.“
