Over 5,000 members of the life insurance sector from 13 Asia-Pacific countries are expected to attend the 16th Asia Pacific Life Insurance Congress (ALPIC) in Malaysia, beginning today.

The congress is co-organised by the National Association of Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (NAMLIFA) and the Asia Pacific Financial Services Association member countries, honouring the top insurance professionals and financial advisors in the industry.

Aside from the host country Malaysia, the other participating markets are: Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and Australia.

“The participation would make the largest financial services congress in this region,” said NAMLIFA organising chairman Tang Kia Sing at a press conference. “As we target more than 60% of foreign participation, the inflow of participants will also boost the tourism industry in Malaysia, which will have a direct and spill-over effect on the local economy.”

Taking place at the Genting Highlands Resort from May 17 to 19, this will be the third time Malaysia will be hosting the event.
