Xl Catlin has appointed Claudia Thyme as director for emerging markets development. In her new role, Thyme will execute XL Catlin’s emerging market strategies, with special focus on Latin America.

Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Thyme will report to Brendan Plessis, head of emerging markets, and will cooperate with the firm’s business leaders to explore and assess growth and profit opportunities.

Prior to her appointment, Thyme was part of XL Catlin’s communications and marketing team as director for strategy & business groups. She has spent 10 years of her 20-year insurance career with XL Catlin.

Prior to XL, she was with Zurich Insurance for a decade, holding various roles including head of communications and marketing for the international businesses division. She holds a BA degree from Georgetown University and an MBA from City University London Business School.

“We recognise the tremendous opportunities in a number of high growth markets to help build resilience by driving (re)insurance penetration and believe this is the right time to further strengthen our team,” commented Plessis. “Claudia’s broad international experience, solid insights into our industry and our company, in addition to her command of several languages, positions her ideally to help deliver our strategy.”
