XL Catlin hires Xue to lead mainland China arm

XL Catlin has appointed Phil Xue as chief executive officer and general manager of XL Insurance (China) Company Ltd, pending regulatory approval.

In addition to his role as CEO and general manager, Xue will also be the insurer’s country manager for China. Before being hired by XL Catlin, he worked for Guy Carpenter & Company for over a decade, most recently as head of its China market and its Shanghai office. He was previously based in Hong Kong for five years before relocating to Shanghai in 2012 to help establish the office there. 

Prior to Guy Carpenter, Xue worked for Royal Sun Alliance plc, Shanghai Branch and China Pacific Insurance (Group) Co. Ltd.

Xue is an alumnus of East China University of Politics and Law and holds a Master’s degree in international economic law. He also obtained a certificate of advance leadership programme from Cambridge Judge Business School in 2016.
