Zurich Malaysia has appointed Junior Cho (pictured) as country head, effective immediately. He succeeds the recently-retired Stephen Clark and will retain his role as CEO of Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Bhd.

Cho reports to Zurich’s Asia-Pacific chief executive officer Tulsi Naidu. In this role, he oversees all of Zurich’s insurance businesses in Malaysia, with a goal to drive sustainable growth. Zurich Malaysia operates four business lines: life insurance, general insurance, family takaful and general takaful. It is the only multinational corporation to hold all four insurance and takaful licences in Malaysia.

A veteran of the industry, Cho has 30 years of experience in the insurance and financial services sector. He has held several senior management roles in business strategy, sales, marketing, distribution, customer management, operations and technology, including overseeing regional operations. He joined Zurich as head of market management across general insurance and general takaful in 2016 and became CEO of the general business in 2019.

“Throughout his tenure, Junior has played a critical role in growing Zurich Malaysia’s general business segment by delivering on strategic business propositions, enhancing distribution channels through partnerships and embracing digitisation to better serve customers and agents,” the insurer’s statement said.

From 2014 to 2016, Cho was CEO of home-grown Malaysian insurer Tune Protect Group. Earlier in his career, he also held leadership roles with Cigna, Allianz and MetLife in Korea.
