Re/insurance brokerage BMS has promoted Kian Wookey (pictured above) to the newly created position of managing director, Bermuda product line development.
Based in Bermuda, he will report to Mark Lawson, managing director of North American direct and facultative.
Wookey has been with BMS since 2019, serving as director in the property team for six years. Before joining the firm, he was a partner at JLT Specialty and began his career at Lloyd & Partners as a producing broker focused on US property business.
In his new role, Wookey will continue his involvement in property while also taking on wider responsibilities. The position includes supporting BMS’s strategy to expand its offerings in Bermuda, with a focus on creating and developing new insurance product lines for the region.
Ian Gormley, UK CEO of BMS, said the appointment reflects the firm’s aim to strengthen its Bermuda platform by expanding available solutions for clients.
“Kian’s skills and experience will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our product offerings in Bermuda, ensuring we are consistently bringing our clients the solution that suits them,” Gormley said.
Globally, BMS operates out of 28 offices in 14 countries, giving its Bermuda unit access to a broad network of resources and client relationships. The company has strengthened its Bermuda leadership team over the past few years, appointing Chris McDowell as CEO of BMS Re Bermuda in 2022.
In November, BMS Re also appointed Brad Melvin as president and CEO of BMS Re US. Based in the United States, Melvin was tasked with driving growth across multiple specialty areas, including managing general agent (MGA) business, facultative reinsurance, healthcare, and capital solutions.
BMS has also made senior hires outside Bermuda in its retail operations. Earlier this month, the firm brought in Cory Wilson as a director in its Canadian team, based in Canada and reporting to the managing director of BMS Canada. Wilson’s appointment added depth to the brokerage’s capabilities in Canada, strengthening its ability to serve local clients while coordinating with other BMS hubs globally.
