Global re/insurance specialist MAPFRE Re announced that it is restructuring its organization to align with strategic objectives, including expanding its life business, refining its commercial and technical approach, and strengthening relationships with clients and brokers.
The company said that it expects the new structure, set to take effect on March 1, to improve its ability to adapt to market conditions and client needs.
As part of the changes, Javier San Basilio has been appointed general manager of MAPFRE Re. His responsibilities will include direct coordination of regional divisions and overseeing the development of large clients and brokers.
The company’s non-group business will also be divided into two segments: non-life underwriting and life business. Carmen Bueso will lead the non-life underwriting division, while Maite González will oversee the life business segment, which includes life, accident, and health insurance. Both executives will assume their roles as assistant general managers, with González also directly coordinating regional supervisors for the life business.
Additionally, Ricardo Pérez has been named manager of the Iberia/Latam regional area and will join MAPFRE Re’s management committee.
With these changes implemented, the company’s global operations will continue to be divided into four main regions: Iberia/Latam, led by Pérez; APAC, under Javier Sánchez Cea; EMEA, managed by Mark Meyerhoff; and North America, where Carlos Sanzo remains the senior executive.
MAPFRE Re also noted that the management of business originating from the MAPFRE Group will remain unchanged, with Fernando Utrilla continuing in his current role.
Finally, MAPFRE Re announced that it is also establishing a strategy, communication, sustainability, and innovation division to provide an integrated approach to these areas. The new division will be led by Juan Satrústegui.
The company’s major overhaul was preceded by expansion in the APAC region, as MAPFRE Re appointed a chief representative officer in Japan and opened a new branch office in Beijing.
CEO Miguel Rosa (pictured above) said that the company will continue boosting its non-life business and the development of its life business to further its growth objectives.
