Sompo names Lily Claydon chief risk officer for APAC

Commercial and consumer property and casualty re/insurance provider Sompo has announced the appointment of Lily Claydon (pictured above) as chief risk officer for Asia Pacific (APAC), effective March 3, 2025.

In her new role, she will oversee risk management, governance, and analytics across the region while also focusing on talent development and capability building. 

Claydon will report to Emmanuel Brule, chief risk officer of Sompo International Holdings, and Kenneth Reilly, chief executive officer, insurance, APAC. She will also join the APAC executive team and be based in Singapore. 

Before joining Sompo, Claydon held senior risk management roles at AIG, BoltTech Group, and FWD Group. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a double master of commerce and international business from the University of Sydney.

Sompo’s APAC expansion

In other recent developments for the region, Sompo also announced the appointment of Maya Dongyoung Lee as chief operating officer.

In this role, announced October 2024, Lee oversees Sompo’s operations across APAC, focusing on operational excellence, transformation, and project management. She is also responsible for building Sompo’s operational footprint in the region and leading talent development and capability-building efforts.

Lee reports to Daniel Englberger, chief operating officer of Sompo International Holdings, and Kenneth Reilly, chief executive officer, Insurance, APAC. She is also part of the APAC executive team and is based in Singapore.

Last month, the firm’s APAC division also bolstered its claims office with the appointment of Pablo Diago as chief claims officer for its commercial and consumer insurance businesses in the region.

In the expanded role, Diago leads claims operations for both commercial and consumer insurance lines, focusing on operational improvements, service consistency, and developing team capabilities.
