Brown & Brown (Europe) Limited has announced the appointment of Carolyn Callan (pictured) as a managing director of the firm’s retail division.

“Carolyn is a highly experienced executive and it’s great that someone of her calibre has chosen to come to us for the next stage of her career,” said Duncan Carter, Brown & Brown’s retail CEO. “She arrives at an exciting time for us in retail, where, as part of the Brown & Brown family, I’m confident she will make a significant contribution to the success of our team.”

“I’m pleased that Carolyn has chosen to join us here at Brown & Brown. She has enjoyed a stellar career and is well-connected and highly respected within our industry. She will be a great asset to the retail team,” added Mike Bruce, Brown & Brown Europe’s CEO.

Who is Carolyn Callan?

Callan has been working within the UK insurance industry for over 21 years. Before joining Brown & Brown’s UK retail division, where she reports to Carter, she held senior leadership roles at Covea Insurance, Towergate Insurance, and Swinton.

Call brings experience from working in the commercial lines market and was previously the commercial lines director and head of SME & schemes at Covea Insurance. Prior to that, she was the director of commercial insurance in Swinton and oversaw the business development and marketing strategy for the SME and advisory broking operation of Towergate.

“I’m excited to be joining Brown & Brown at such a pivotal time for the business, and retail broking in particular,” said Callan. “I have worked with Mike Bruce and his team as a strategic insurance partner for the past five years and my respect and admiration for the team has grown with each passing year.”

In her new role, Callan will be working as part of the retail senior leadership team where she will help in driving the division’s growth, and operational efficiency, as well as talent development and retention across the business.
