Motor insurance firm Insure the Box is expanding its workforce to keep up with the increasing demand for its telematics-based services.

The insurer, which currently employs 300 people, is now in growth phase and will increase its workforce by 10% in 2017, founder and CEO Mike Brockman told Chronicle Live.

Brockman said the company is looking for new recruits in customer service, technology, innovation, engineering and other departments based in Quorum Business Park in North Newcastle.

“We are generating more business than we can deal with so my Newcastle operations director needs more people, and that’s a nice problem to have in business,” Chronicle Live quoted Brockman as saying.

“We are still looking at steady growth and are quite a technologically-based company, looking at how technology can interact with people, using technology to take the mundane tasks out so that customers get a better forward-facing service,” Brockman added.

Chronicle Live reported that Insure the Box is also considering plans to add new products, including dashboard cameras.

According to the news website, Insure the Box’s premium income has rocketed from £8 million in its first year to a current £120 million.

“We started tentatively and recruited 20 people and at that point no-one was sure if this business was going to work,” Brock lamented.

“I was being told that no-one wanted these black boxes in cars and that it had very little chance of success. Yet now we have 300 people and are in a growth phase,” he said.
