Insurance and risk law specialist BLM has announced a shuffle among its ranks to tap into growth opportunities in its Scotland operations.
According to an announcement, Glasgow-based partner Karen Dance will become head of the Scottish business stream, while partner Gillian Rushbury was appointed head of the Glasgow office.
Scottish Legal News reported that Dance will replace partner David Taylor, who was head of Scotland and executive board member for three years, since the company merged with HBM Sayers in May 2014. He will stay with the board and will remain a serving partner at BLM specializing in dispute resolution.
The new Scotland head has built up her expertise in insurance litigation from more than 20 years’ experience with a focus on defended reparation cases. Dance has a special interest in animal, veterinary and equestrian litigation, having previously served as director of governance with HorseScotland.
Mike Brown, senior partner at BLM, also said in the report: “Karen is a well-respected lawyer, both within BLM and across the industry. We are pleased that she has committed to a broader role to support the business in Scotland and help fulfil its long-term growth ambitions.
“Scotland is an integral part of the BLM business. We are proud of the solid team we have in Scotland and the broad range of skills and expertise available to our customers.”
Meanwhile, Rushbury will head BLM’s solicitor advocacy unit and will maximize her expertise in civil litigation with specific focus on motor, employers’ and public liability cases as she heads the Glasgow office.
The firm also announced it will move its offices to a new location along George Street in Edinburgh to allow room for team expansion.
