Mandy Hunt (pictured), chair of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Underwriting Community Board, has taken on a key position at The Clear Group.

In a career update on LinkedIn, Hunt said: “I’m thrilled to have started my new role as managing director - MGA at The Clear Group. The week has flown by, and the welcome from the whole group has been fantastic.”

An RSA alumnus, Hunt served as commercial lines chief underwriting officer before she left the insurer in the third quarter of 2023. Aside from various RSA posts, her credentials also include time spent as managing director at Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands, claims manager at Lambert Fenchurch, and account handler at Willis.

“There are not three different versions of me – Mandy at work, Mandy at home, and Mandy in the public place,” Hunt told Insurance Business in a previous interview. “And that’s why I think it’s so massively important to be authentic because people get behind you when they see you for who you are and when they recognise that you’re genuine.

“I think leadership is about being truly authentic. We all have good days, and we all have bad days, but I genuinely believe you get the best out of the people you work with when you encourage authenticity and honesty and being vulnerable rather than putting a façade about things.”

At Clear, Hunt will be in charge of the new managing general agent business. The group made its first MGA acquisition last year through a 50% shareholding in Lloyd’s coverholder Thomond Underwriting.

“Developing an MGA capability is a central plank of our growth strategy,” Clear group chief executive Mike Edgeley said at the time. Clear has since snapped up One Commercial Specialty and Profile Risk Solutions.
