Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has a new chief technology officer in the form of Max Gibbs, who was recruited from global industry player Chubb.

Gibbs will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the insurer’s IT while ensuring it is fully aligned with the wider Liberty Mutual Group. A big part of this role will be the planning and delivery of the IT applications and services needed for the company’s commercial goals.

Based in LSM’s London headquarters, Gibbs will report to Nick Metcalf, company president and managing director.

Metcalf said: “In a world of increasing technological change, Max’s depth and breadth of experience will guide our IT development, providing our underwriters and claims experts with the tools they need to benefit our policyholders.”

“He has a proven track record of successfully leading business-orientated IT functions in a complex environment,” Metcalf added.

Gibbs has three decades of senior IT leadership experience in a range of sectors. He spent the last 17 years at Chubb, most recently as chief information officer.
