Igloo has announced the appointment of John Chen country manager for Igloo Thailand, to strengthen its operations in the country.

In his new role, Chen will lead Igloo’s growth and operations in the Thai market, establish strategic partnerships, and expand the range of insurance products available to Thai consumers.

Chen comes to Igloo with over 15 years of experience in emerging and developed global markets, including prominent roles in e-commerce and with fintech firms in Southeast Asia. He had previously served as co-founder of neobank; in his new role for Igloo, he will be responsible for a collaboration with Capital A’s AirAsia Ride for personal accident and motor insurance aimed at its fleet of over 10,000 riders.

Thailand has faced significant road traffic-related challenges, with a high road traffic fatality rate. Igloo touts its offerings as an answer to address the growing demand for affordable insurance products related to road safety. According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report, Thailand ranked second in traffic-related mortality among countries analysed. Igloo placed its focus on making motor insurance more budget-friendly and promoting responsible driving behaviours.

As per the International Monetary Fund, Thailand’s domestic insurance market has experienced significant growth, driven by increased digital adoption and government support for expanding the insurance sector. Igloo has established partnerships in Thailand, including collaborations with AIS Insurance Service and Thai Paiboon Insurance.

“Igloo is committed to our vision of ‘Insurance for All’. John is the right person to take this journey with us,” Igloo co-founder and CEO Raunak Mehta said. “Thailand has a vast pool of top insurance enablers and the OIC’s vision is encouraging for us. John’s appointment will bring forth collaborations with new partners like AirAsia Ride to achieve our goals. His experience will help Igloo scale our business across the region through the fostering of even more new partnerships and deepening existing ones.”

Elsewhere in the country, the National Health Security Office (NHSO) of Thailand has affirmed that all Thai citizens covered by a healthcare insurance scheme are eligible to undergo breast cancer screening, provided they meet specific criteria.
