Allianz has appointed Gany Subramaniam (pictured) as chief executive officer of Allianz Insurance Lanka and Allianz Life Insurance Lanka.

Subramaniam will be in charge of all Allianz operations in Sri Lanka and oversee the growth strategy of both firms, Allianz said in a statement. He will report to Claudia Salem, CEO of property & casualty, Allianz Asia-Pacific.

With more than 16 years’ experience from the insurance industry, Subramaniam has held senior leadership roles with AIG in Singapore and Malaysia.

Beginning June 01, Subramaniam succeeds Surekha Alles, who will retire from Allianz Lanka after more than 12 years with the business. He will join Allianz Lanka’s board of directors, which is responsible for supporting the growth agenda of the business.

In addition, Allianz Asia-Pacific head of special projects & external affairs Ruediger Schaefer will serve as Allianz Lanka’s chairman of the board of directors, replacing former regional CEO George Sartorel, who retired at the end of April.

“I’m delighted to appoint Gany to lead our Sri Lankan business at an exciting stage of its development,” said Solmaz Altin, Allianz Asia-Pacific regional CEO. “Gany brings extensive experience from the insurance sector and is well-versed in what it takes to meet our strategic priorities in the market. In addition, we welcome the appointment of Ruediger as chairman and look forward to his stewardship. I would like to thank Surekha for her service and contribution to Allianz Lanka, and wish her all the best in retirement.”
