DB Insurance Co., Ltd. opened its new Busan headquarters on June 19, consolidating its regional operations into a purpose-built facility and signalling, in the words of its chief executive, ambitions that extend beyond the domestic market. The building sits in Seomyeon, the central commercial district of Busanjin-gu. Construction began in June 2022 and reached completion on June 2, 2026, according to The Asia Business Daily. DB Insurance and its major subsidiaries and affiliates will relocate to the facility in phases.
The structure rises 24 floors above ground with eight basement levels, totalling 44,769.84 square meters of floor space. Its second basement level connects directly to Exit 12 of Seomyeon subway station, integrating the building into Busan’s metropolitan transit network. The company said it will configure the space as a smart office, positioning the facility as the operational centre for its regional service network across the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam corridor.
In July 2025, AM Best affirmed DB Insurance’s Financial Strength Rating at A+ (Superior) and its Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating at “aa-” (Superior), both with a stable outlook. The rating agency assessed the company’s balance sheet strength as very strong, with risk-adjusted capitalization measured at the highest level under its Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR) framework. AM Best attributed the ratings to consistent internal capital generation, asset-liability management practices, and low reliance on supplementary capital instruments such as hybrid bonds and subordinated debt. The company’s underwriting results were described as outperforming those of domestic peers, reflected in a continued low combined ratio and stable investment income. Its product portfolio spans long-term, auto, and general insurance lines, with an additional life insurance segment operated through subsidiary DB Life Insurance Co., Ltd. DB Insurance held approximately 19% of the South Korean non-life insurance market by insurance service revenue in 2024, according to AM Best.
At the June 19 ceremony, DB Insurance CEO Jeong Jongpyo said the Busan headquarters is not only a domestic milestone. “While the DB Financial Center on Teheran-ro in Seoul represented our commitment to becoming the nation’s leading insurance company, the opening of the Busan headquarters marks the beginning of a new challenge and a greater leap forward, not only domestically but also in the global market,” Jeong said, as reported by The Asia Business Daily.
DB Insurance has already begun expanding internationally. AM Best noted that the company acquired two non-life insurers in Vietnam in 2024 as part of a measured pursuit of inorganic growth abroad. The Vietnam acquisitions, combined with Jeong’s remarks at the ceremony, point to a broader international expansion strategy that extends beyond the Busan region. AM Best has noted that positive rating actions, while unlikely in the medium term, could follow if DB Insurance demonstrates clear market leadership with strong brand recognition in both domestic and overseas markets.
DB Group vice chairman Kim Jungnam addressed attendees at the ceremony. “The Busan headquarters is the result of the strong trust DB Insurance has built with its customers over the years. I hope it will become a hub for mutual growth together with the communities of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam,” Kim said.
