Industry veteran Tan Kin Lian has submitted his application for an eligibility certificate in Singapore’s 2023 presidential elections, signalling a possible second run after his last-place finish in the 2011 presidential elections.

In a social media post, Tan said that he submitted the application on July 11 through a proxy. While the results of his application are yet to be revealed, another post confirmed that he is already busy preparing for his campaign.

Tan has a career in insurance spanning several decades. He is most prominently known as the former CEO of NTUC Income Insurance – now known as Income Insurance – as well as the ex-chairman of the International Cooperative & Mutual Insurance Federation, an organization spanning 123 insurance groups.

In one of his campaign posts, Tan said that his primary areas of focus should he be elected are the current cost-of-living crisis, affordable housing, and job security. Tan last ran for president in 2011, where he finished in fourth out of four candidates.
