Ping An Insurance has established two research centres, one for finance and the other for healthcare, in cooperation with Tsinghua University. The centres aim to become leading global research venues as part of the Chinese government’s efforts to improve its finance and health systems.

According to a press statement by the insurer, the Global Financial and Economic Development Research Centre and Global Medical and Healthcare Research Centre will draw on the scientific and research capabilities of Tsinghua University and the technological innovations of Ping An in the fields of finance, health, and the development of smart cities.

In addition, Ping An and Tsinghua University will conduct research to formulate insurance products targeted for low-income individuals in order to help improve financial security in China and build a multi-level social security system.

“We are glad to collaborate with the top university in the country to establish a global top-grade financial and medical think tanks,” said Dr. Peter Ma, chairman and CEO of Ping An.

He added: “In the future, Ping An will increase its investments in research and provide quality references for the [Communist Party] and related departments, to contribute to the country in the construction of smart cities. It will proactively facilitate the use of research to incubate quality healthcare and financial services across the nation.”
