Crawford & Company has named Tony Kan as its director of large and complex loss for Malaysia, aiming to enhance its capabilities in managing high-value claims.

Kan (pictured) brings more than 30 years of experience in the Malaysian insurance sector, with a background in handling substantial claims valued between RM20 million and RM100 million. His portfolio includes managing claims for major corporations such as Sime Darby, Proton, Telekom Malaysia, and POS Malaysia.

He is a Chartered Loss Adjuster and holds diplomas in Financial Services Loss Adjusting and Insurance.

In his new role, Kan will oversee the firm’s operations in managing large and complex claims, working closely with Crawford’s teams to deliver customised solutions for corporate clients.

Scott Reichelt, president of Crawford’s Asia operations, said Kan’s leadership will be instrumental as the firm continues to grow in Malaysia.

“As we continue to see significant growth across our large and complex loss teams, Tony’s leadership will play a key role in further strengthening our capability in Malaysia,” he said.

Nathan Hannah, managing director for Malaysia, noted that Kan’s experience aligns with the company’s commitment to delivering professional claims management and supporting team development.

“Tony will oversee large loss handling in Malaysia and will work closely with our experienced team to deliver the best solutions for our clients,” he said.

Strengthening operations ahead of monsoon season

In addition to Kan’s appointment, Crawford & Company recently expanded its presence in Pahang, a region frequently impacted by flooding during the monsoon season.

Mohammad Aminuddin Bin Alias has been appointed as the head of the Pahang branch to oversee operations and enhance disaster response capabilities.

Aminuddin joined the company in August, bringing over 13 years of experience in handling catastrophe-related claims, with a focus on flood incidents. His expertise includes property, liability, engineering, and business interruption claims, as well as coordinating disaster response efforts.

Commenting on the appointment, Hannah noted that the Pahang region is particularly susceptible to flooding, especially during the monsoon period, making it vital to have experienced leadership in place.

“It’s great that we can fill this role with someone of Amin’s calibre and knowledge of the local market,” he said. “I’m very confident in timely and effective claims management under his leadership.”

Aminuddin emphasised strengthening the branch’s readiness to respond to flood claims efficiently.

“Ensuring our clients receive the swift, professional support they need when disasters strike is my number one priority,” he said.
