AXA Hong Kong and Macau recently concluded its annual volunteer campaign, “AXA Week for Good 2025,” bringing together more than 1,100 employees and partners to support environmental restoration and social inclusion across the region.

The initiative, part of AXA’s global corporate responsibility program, emphasised collaboration with local non-profits and social enterprises to address climate-related and social challenges.

Initiatives support biodiversity efforts and underserved communities

Running from June 16 to 27, the campaign supported two core themes from AXA Group’s broader sustainability strategy: addressing the impacts of climate change and expanding inclusive protection.

Volunteer activities were designed to generate community-level outcomes while reinforcing employee engagement around corporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities.

Tree planting and food support among key activities

One major component of the campaign involved planting 300 native trees in degraded agricultural areas of the New Territories. The event, conducted with the World Green Organisation, was part of an effort to improve biodiversity and soil health in previously deforested areas.

In addition to the planting initiative, volunteers harvested 86 kilograms of locally grown produce, which was distributed to the Hong Kong Student Aid Society to benefit children and youth.

AXA volunteers also supported meal preparation efforts through the “Pay It Forward” program with Dignity Kitchen, providing 400 hot meals to low-income and homeless individuals. The initiative targeted food insecurity while fostering engagement with at-risk populations.

Another event included an eco-friendly mosquito balm workshop led by women from the community, including retirees and single mothers. Participants learned to create natural repellents using sustainable ingredients, which were later distributed to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and waste collectors.

Volunteers also joined an art-focused activity co-hosted by Dyelicious, where they hand-painted reusable tote bags using indigo-dye techniques. The customized bags were later donated to individuals in hospitals and care centres as functional gifts.

Business performance remains on growth trajectory

The community campaign coincided with AXA Group’s announcement of a 7% increase in gross written premiums (GWP) for the first quarter of 2025.

Growth was reported across all major segments, with notable expansion in property and casualty lines, life and health insurance, and reinsurance operations.

The property and casualty business saw 7% growth, including a 6% increase in commercial lines, partly driven by expanded volumes at AXA XL and revised pricing strategies. Personal lines also grew by 7%, supported by product adjustments in core markets.

Reinsurance premiums rose 12%, reaching €1.4 billion, attributed to growth in insurance-linked securities and favourable pricing in casualty classes.

The life and health segment posted an 8% year-over-year increase, led by unit-linked life insurance growth of 16% and health insurance gains of 6%.
