Police in Hyderabad, India have arrested three individuals for allegedly swindling auto rickshaw owners by selling them false motor insurance certificates.

The suspects were identified as A Visveshwar Rao and U Prem Kumar, both Regional Transport Authority (RTA) brokers, and G Satyanarayana, owner of a stationery and photocopying shop.

According to a report by The Hans India, authorities confiscated 15 fake insurance certificates, a personal computer unit, a printer, a scanner, and cash from the suspects. The police said that Rao and Kumar approached auto rickshaw owners and promised them instant motor insurance for their vehicles without the owners making a personal appearance.

Using their status as RTA brokers, Rao and Kumar allegedly took the owners’ payments but instead of purchasing genuine insurance policies, the duo provided them with falsified certificates made with the help of Satyanarayana.

Around 20 vehicle owners have filed complaints against the three suspects, leading to their arrest and subsequent turnover to Trimulgherry police for further legal action.
