Fortitude Re has made a $20,000 grant to OutBermuda, a Bermuda-based LGBTQ+ charity, to support its education and advocacy programming, The Royal Gazette reported. The grant was announced through the company's Fortitude Re 4 Good community partnership programme.
The contribution includes an annual Rainbow sponsorship of Bermuda Pride and financial support for OutBermuda's year-round educational programmes and advocacy initiatives. The grant goes beyond the Pride event to fund OutBermuda's educational programming and advocacy work throughout the year.
Fortitude Re employees also volunteered at the Bermuda Pride Parade, held on July 4, as part of the company's commitment to the organisation. The company hosted a community tent at the event with refreshments and supplies for attendees. The company's PRIDE Employee Resource Group, which promotes inclusion within the firm and supports engagement with Bermuda's LGBTQ+ community, backed the partnership.
The OutBermuda grant is the latest in a series of Fortitude Re 4 Good contributions that has also funded arts-based learning and environmental restoration work. The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) reported that member firms contributed US$7.3 million to charitable causes in 2024. ABIR members also provided US$1.25 million in scholarships for Bermudian students in the same period.
Fortitude Re is a Bermuda-based legacy and life reinsurance specialist established in 2018 by AIG and the Carlyle Group. Majority-owned by Carlyle, the company manages approximately US$101 billion in insurance reserves globally and administers more than four million policies. The group holds A (Excellent) financial strength ratings from AM Best and completed a $500 million capital markets transaction in June 2026.
Fortitude Re also received Great Place to Work certification for the second consecutive year in June 2025. A staff survey found that 94% of employees believe they are treated fairly regardless of gender, race, age, or sexual orientation. In the same survey, 89% of staff said they felt positive about the company's community contributions.
Alon Neches, chief executive of Fortitude Re, said OutBermuda's work aligns with the company's community values and that the grant is part of its year-round commitment to inclusion in Bermuda. "We are honoured to support OutBermuda's mission and the positive impact the organisation continues to make across Bermuda," Neches said.
"Pride creates vital space for LGBTQ+ people in Bermuda to feel seen, valued, safe and celebrated, and this support also helps fund OutBermuda's year-round programmes, advocacy and community work," Joshua Samuels, executive director of OutBermuda, added.
OutBermuda provides LGBTQ+ education, support, and advocacy in Bermuda and the Bermuda Pride Parade is its main annual public event. The organisation's year-round work extends beyond the Parade to educational and advocacy programmes for LGBTQ+ individuals and families. The 2026 grant adds to Fortitude Re's annual Rainbow sponsorship of the Parade by extending backing to OutBermuda's year-round work.
