Lloyd’s and London Market insurance services business PoloWorks has appointed Raphael Borrel (pictured) as chief risk officer.

Borrel’s previous roles include CNA Hardy risk management director and XL Catlin Services CRO. At PoloWorks – which consists of Polo Commercial Insurance Services, Polo Managing Agency, Polo Insurance Managers, and PoloPartners – Borrel will be in charge of the risk and compliance functions.

“PoloWorks’ consistent growth and focus on digitisation are what excites me about joining,” Borrel said when his appointment was announced. “At its core, PoloWorks is a consultancy that is constantly developing to meet the needs of the market and its customers.

“PoloWorks stands out in the market with its dynamic and ambitious approach to the optimisation of services for its customers. I’m looking forward to working closely with the team to support customer needs and the delivery of our strategy.”

Reporting to chief executive Paul Andrews, the new CRO brings more than two and a half decades of risk management and compliance experience to PoloWorks.

“Raphael’s deep risk expertise will be an asset to the team at PoloWorks,” Andrews declared in a release. “His strong background in the market and knowledge of the risk and compliance sectors means he is well suited to help develop PoloWorks’ offerings and regulatory requirements

“I’m looking forward to working with Raphael on reaching our strategic goals and another year of growth and exciting developments for PoloWorks.”

Andrews, in an interview with Insurance Business last year, shared that the services provider invested heavily in people, processes, and systems in 2023.

“We’ve got pretty much whatever you need, whether it’s access to the market, people to support your business, or modern technology that allows you to thrive,” the CEO noted at the time.

“We want to start getting that message out there, about why we’re different and about the route we’re taking. We’re not slowing down.”
