MetLife China and WeSure, a digital insurance platform owned by Tencent, have teamed up to introduce an annual aviation accident insurance product.

The policy, named “10-Million All Year Aviation Accident Insurance”, provides a whole year’s worth of aviation accident insurance, making it more convenient for consumers.

Aviation accident insurance is important for frequent flyers, such as business travellers. However, having to purchase insurance with every flight can be tedious, and the large number of products can be confusing to customers. The new product, which can be accessed through WeChat wallet, allows travellers to purchase insurance for any flight around the world with a few clicks.

The insurance premium costs as low as RMB68 (US$10.50), and covers an unlimited number of flights with up to RMB10 million (US$1.54 million) in compensation.

“MetLife China has redefined travel insurance solutions,” said Siyi Sun, CEO of MetLife China, noting that the new product was released just in time for peak travel season in the summer. “This not only accelerates our digital footprint, but also underlines MetLife’s determination to offer consumers more and faster end-to-end protection solutions in the digital age.”

Alan Lau, chairman and CEO of WeSure, added: “As consumers travel more frequently, we plan to offer more products to fit their different needs. The ‘10-Million All Year Aviation Accident Insurance’ focuses on creating a more flexible and convenient protection experience for hundreds of millions of consumers.”
