Japanese insurer Rakuten General Insurance has selected Guidewire Software’s ClaimCenter non-life claims management system for its motor insurance business.

The ClaimCenter system supports the automation of personal, commercial, and workers’ compensation insurance claims and allows end-to-end claims lifecycle management. B-Prost Co., a member of Guidewire’s PartnerConnect consulting network, will be in charge of rolling out the system, with full-scale implementation expected within 2019.

According to Rakuten General Insurance, the increase in its number of motor insurance policyholders has led to an increase in accident claims being handled, and these are expected to grow further in the future.

Previously, the insurer handled claims through several individual systems, such as a contract content inquiry system, accident negotiation system, and insurance premium payment system. By consolidating multiple legacy systems, Rakuten will have a seamless workflow of claims operations, allowing staff to provide higher levels of customer service for its policyholders. The firm expects to increase its claim handling capacity by 150% by adopting ClaimsCenter.

“Key factors for selecting Guidewire ClaimCenter include its compatibility with new technologies and advanced functionality and operability,” said Osamu Sato of Rakuten’s claims management department. “We were also impressed with Guidewire’s wealth of experience with implementation projects both here in Japan and overseas.”
