One of the world’s top startup accelerators is looking to debut an accelerator programme in Singapore next year in order to tap into the vibrant fintech market in the Asian city-state.

“We would love to do a Singapore fintech and insurtech hub,” Plug and Play founder and CEO Saeed Amidi told the Business Times.

Amidi said this at the sidelines of Fintech Abu Dhabi, the first fintech expo of its kind in the Middle East and Africa region. He said Plug and Play is looking to set up a programme in cooperation with five banks and five insurance companies, and “hopefully” work with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Amidi was an early investor in PayPal, Dropbox, and Lending Club.

His remarks came before the Singapore Fintech Festival 2017, which will be held in November. The second edition of the event is organised by the MAS, along with The Association of Banks in Singapore and SingEx Holdings.

The inaugural edition in 2016 drew over 13,000 participants from 60 countries worldwide.
