Willis Towers Watson (WTW), a global advisory, broking, and solutions company, is ready to fast-track the insurance's industry's digital transformation by welcoming digital leader Lou Smith to its Insurance Consulting and Technology business.

WTW Insurance Consulting and Technology has more than 1,200 employees operating in 35 markets worldwide and mainly provides advice, solutions, and software to the insurance industry. In addition, its consulting services help clients manage risk and capital, improve business performance, and create competitive advantage by focusing on financial and regulatory reporting, enterprise risk and capital management, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate restructuring, products, pricing, business management, and strategy.

Smith joins WTW Insurance Consulting and Technology from Lloyd's of London, where she was the chief digital officer responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation's digital transformation and strategy for a data-enabled, digital insurance marketplace. Before joining Lloyd's of London, she spent eight years at RBS (including NatWest), spearheading the digitisation of its personal and business banking and teaming up with the fintech community to accelerate change.

In her new role, Smith will lead the WTW Insurance Consulting and Technology unit's commercial lines data strategy and accelerate its digital trading capability.

Tasha Pettet, director, digital underwriting, insurance consulting and technology at WTW, noted the increase in the pace and appetite of digitalisation in the commercial lines insurance market during the COVID-19 pandemic – with WTW clients prioritising digital trading.

“WTW has an established track record of leading the market through digital change in pricing and underwriting,” she said. “I am delighted that Lou has joined WTW at this exciting stage of our development.”

Smith commented: “It is an exciting time to join WTW and continue the shift to digital trading across the market. Our investments in broking technology and risk and analytics will help the industry learn from experience and move digital adoption forward for the good of all stakeholders.”

Aside from fast-tracking digital adoption by boosting Insurance Consulting and Technology, WTW strengthened its digital transformation by naming Anthony Smit the new cyber risk consultant in the Australasia Financial Lines (FINEX) team. He is a qualified accountant and project manager with over 20 years of experience in financial services, large corporate organisations, and entrepreneurial environments and has a deep understanding of the quantification and financial impacts caused by cyber events.
