Aon has announced two leadership appointments to complement its strategic growth agenda.

Adam Cox has been appointed new director of Aon's expanding managing general agent business, One Underwriting. The agency's former director, Alison Smith, meanwhile, has been moved into Aon's broking area as the new regional director for Southern and Western – commercial.

In his new role, Cox will lead a specialist national team of 30 underwriters to further the growth of Aon’s distribution footprint in Australia through expansion of its third-party broker network. He joins One Underwriting from Swiss Re, where he was most recently responsible for leading ANZ business strategy as country manager for corporate solutions.

Smith, who has led One Underwriting since its launch in January 2016, will now head up Aon’s client engagement for its mid-market and SME clients in Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, and Western Australia as regional director.

James Baum, managing director for commercial and chairman for broking Pacific, said Cox is “an exceptional leader” with more than 27 years of industry experience and “an impressive track record in developing strategic business plans and delivering profitable growth.”

Baum referred to Smith, meanwhile, as an “integral member of Aon’s senior leadership team.”

“Her management of the launch, rebrand, and expanding product portfolio of One Underwriting has seen the company expand its underwriting capacity, broaden its product range and leverage Aon’s financial investment in data and analytics,” Baum sad. “This has enabled us, and our brokers, to stay ahead of the curve. As regional director, we are confident Alison will deliver exceptional results for the continued growth and expansion of our commercial offer across the regions.”
